Characterization of the AZ31/AW-6060 Joint Fabricated using Compound Casting with a Zn Interlayer at Relatively Low Temperature Conditions

The work deals with the fabrication of a joint between AZ31 magnesium alloy and AW-6060 aluminium use Zn interlayer. layer was produced on surface an insert by diffusion bonding. then placed inside steel mould kept at room temperature. using compound casting filling liquid alloy, heated to 650 °C. microstructure bonding zone formed joined alloys analysed optical microscope scanning electron equipped energy dispersive X-ray spectroscope. properties were examined Vickers microhardness measurements simple shear strength testing. As result experiment, 400 μm thick complex alloys. microstructural analysis showed that reveals high concentration Mg. layers eutectoid (a MgZn phase + solid solution Al in Mg), Mg5Al2Zn2 Mg(Al,Zn)2 fine particles other phases observed there. characterized relatively microhardness, which related brittleness constituents. 19.6 ± 2.5 MPa.
